@Davecrockhunter Contact OfferUp support, they'll guide you and work with local police as far as they are able. But, I would just cut my losses. Why didn't you test together at a local pawn shop or ask for appropriate paperwork if available? Learn from it I guess. OfferUp can only provide message chains to authorities. Don't know how else they can help except work with the authorities in that regard.

I wouldn't worry. It sounds like someone was genuinely interested but flaked for whatever reason. Do a follow-up after a day or two. Unless you had a heated argument with another customer at some point? Never escalate, just block.

I'm unsure on your intent with this comment to be honest. The OfferUp staff doesn't care if you sell junk, unless it's prohibited. If you're junk doesn't sell don't be surprised though. — It's up the user to make an informed decision on what they are buying. They need to ask questions, maybe look at the item etc. and in this manner conclude if something is 'junk' in their opinion. If the seller doesn't want to provide this information it's their choice. There are instances where OfferUp needs to step in, optional refunds is not one of them.

As someone who sells technically one specific type of item, I don't think refunds are viable for my business at least — but exchanges are possible on rare occasions. I've only done it twice and it was because I believed an issue with the product was on me — turns out it wasn't, but I didn't mind. Honestly though, if you had time to ask questions and test / look at the item — then there is no reason for a refund. OfferUps position is that all sales are final for the same reason. As a buyer, make informed decisions. As a seller, provide the option to ask / view / test something out.

@Kalikween90 Setting up and THEN selling to someone else? I'm sure his intent was also to maybe push you to say "I'll give you 13$ more than what he's offering." I feel you... I've traveled for 2h just to have the seller say, nah bro I sold it to someone else. Even in person someone tried to make me pay extra because another person messaged him late with a 10$ extra offer. ??? While money does speak, them trying to make you bid like an auctioneer with a little plastic paddle w/ more $ written on it is ridiculous. "Sold! To the gentleman in the back with the green shirt." People need to at least learn the difference between this app and eBay, sheesh. I think flaky sellers are less common though. I've been blocking any seller with this kind of mentality. This is the only solution, it's no worth getting stressed over it. _________________ Don't think I've ever seen the acronym FCFS I think the unfortunate thing is first come first serve means different things to different people — or they are willing to flake on you for an extra 5$ which defeats their position on the subject.

There are instances where you can do holds. Although it's completely up to the seller to decide. I do it from time to time. All you have to do is tell any other interested parties that if the other person flakes they're next. I've gotten the "can you pick up rn or not?" like am I supposed to stop working and drop by assuming someone else is not on their way already? It just irks me. The correct response to me asking would be, as I said. "Sorry, someone is picking up, if they don't show we can meet up."

@C4rlo5 Some people are willing to give out their address, others prefer not to — for whatever reason. I'm personally the latter — it's completely up to you. If the item extremely big and it's not possible to carry or wheel down a block, give them the closest intersections and walk them down to take look at it — put it in the front yard if you can. Make sure they are satisfied with the product and ask them if they have any questions. Try to set up in the day time so all detail on the item is visible. This way they don't try and return it.

It may just be the search algorithm needs tweaking. If you search for say, PS4 or Smash Bros. you'll get ads specific to that item. Although it will get pinned to your main feed. This can be fixed / keywords banned, I don't think it was done on purpose. OpticsP__ for example also sells other non-lethal items, it may have been suggested by a third party ad vendor and they just went ahead with it. Back in the day when I had a website you would get third party ads as 'packages' that were deemed legit, users would tell me they'd occasionally see pr0n so I tried something else. Is OfferUp wrong, I suppose — I'm sure it will be fixed.

Most of these can be avoided. Also you can't just ban people for not replying back. It's part of the human factor — some people are nice some are rude. Unlike eBay where there is no interaction and you have to wait for it to arrive. I know it can be frustrating, it's happened to me. I'll read it over myself more carefully when I get the chance. A couple of these have already been addressed by other users and admins. "before the word gets out that its nearly impossible to buy anything here" That's not the case for the majority though.

@Agapecer Do you see errors in your gmail outbox possibly sending only part of the link? Another theory is a possible bad connection on the recipient end or ad blockers. Maybe an Admin can chime in and you can provide images of this error. __________________ I just did it and it appears to work just fine. Is this your process? Offers tab (choose ad) → three little dots top right → Share → Gmail It basically just clipboards the shortform ad link that would be found on PC https://offerup.co/gsssCFQGAK If the issue is in fact gmail. A workaround would be clipboarding the link and sending it to the user directly since you're both in app. Favorite one of their ads, so you don't lose them.

The appropriate term would be spammers not scammers, well at least I've never dealt with them — maybe you have and had a bad experience. But, yeah I've seen these types of ads... they kind of annoy me as well. It's usually for cars, but there are also some for 'kodi usb boxes'. I think I screen capped one because it was so ridiculous. It was honestly about 10 regular ads long, it was crazy. If they're text only ads do report them, but yes I also hope they do something about these car / kodi ones.

I don't know how useful or user friendly it would be to the avarage joe / jane. If they'd be required to set up a wallet and links I think it would just create confusion. Don't know if OfferUp would even make a tutorial for it. If you can find a way to introduce it, I don't see why not — but I would understand if OfferUp has reservations.

As stated, simply Google for it so you get a visual guide. You either look for ghost marks ) stripes or for some bills even use a special pen, they can be bought at Staples if I recall — the ink should fade. If the user is rated well, I usually just go ahead with the transaction or check it really quick when they're not looking haha If anything else, ask if they use the in app payment options.

"leave a written review" this seems like the solution, well at least in some cases probably not yours in particular. You should have really insepcted any item beforehand and asked as many questions as you can. "Can I test it out?" being of of them if it's an appliance or gaming console.

So it seems a couple of my responses to others have been held back? The last one said 'make sure to avoid being scammed' was the gist of it and it was auto-deleted. I was given the option to see all other replies being held for moderation. ____________________ I live in a sketchy part of town and there are things you can do to minimize bad encounters. Maybe OfferUp or it's bots believe I'm giving them a bad name in some way or causing people to shy away from it's platform? Goes without saying, that's not what I'm trying to do — just curious.
